This presentation will provide insights into the current status of the freshwater invasive apple snails (Pomacea spp.) in the ASEAN countries and other parts of the world. The effects of changing climate on Pomacea spp. new invasions, expanded distribution, negative impacts on the loss of biodiversity in wetland rice and native ecosystems, extensive economic damage to irrigated rice and human health, and triggering pesticide misuse and abuse during their management will be discussed. New strategies to manage them in rice agriculture using “ecology-based” sustainable management options will also be discussed. The presentation will end with the brief launch of the latest book on
invasive apple snails, and also explore the future collaboration with the researchers from the Rice Research Institute of Iran, as well as other institutions in Iran.
The webinar workshop will conduct from 10 to 12 pm Iran local time on 26 May 2021, in the Rice Research Institute of Iran (RRII) plat form, Rasht, Iran. For more assistance please contact: shmsoltani@gmail.com
