Iranian News Agency (IRNA), Guilan Province, Iran- The Rice Research Institute of Iran introduced and released the five new rice varieties namely, Rash, Guilar, Anam, Tisa, and Tolooe in the past three years (2018 to 2020), according to Director-General of the Rice Research Institute of Iran, Dr. Maryam Hosseini Chaleshtori.
Dr. Maryam Hosseini in an interview with IRNA on Wednesday, Dec 15, 2020, explaining the research achievements of the Rice Research Institute of Iran over the past three years, which has led to increasing the ranking of the RRII, and therefore, she also was selected as the top director-general among the Agricultural Research, Education and Extension Organization (AREEO) institutes.
According to the official, the Iranian farmers produced 2.6 million tons of rice during the current Iranian calendar year (started on March 20), from the paddy fields across the country, and thus the domestic production meets about 85 percent of the country’s needs. Dr. Hosseini Chaleshtori strongly invited all governmental and private organizations to fulfill this 15 % gap in the near future.
