Dr. Maryam Hosseini Chaleshtori, Director General of Rice Research Institute of Iran (RRII) attended in the 6th Webinar symposium on exchange and Cooperation to Enhance Innovation for Agricultural Science and Technology in South and Southeast Asia (IAAST-SSA)
Dr. Maryam Hosseini Chaleshtori Director General of the rice research Institute of Iran as a special guest attended the opening ceremony of the 6th webinar symposium on exchange and cooperation to enhance innovation for agricultural science and technology in the south and southeast Asia (IAAST-SSA) that was held by Yunnan Academy of Agricultural Sciences (YAAS) at 25th August 2022 in Yunnan, China PR.
On 12th June 2017, the Innovation Alliance for Agricultural Science and Technology in South & Southeast Asia (IAAST-SSA) was established, proposed by Yunnan Academy of Agricultural Sciences, China (YAAS) and co-initiated by Bangladesh Agricultural Research Council, Bangladesh; Agricultural Academy, Bulgaria; Cambodian Agricultural Research and Development Institute, Cambodia; Ethiopian Institute of Agricultural Research, Ethiopia; Department of Agricultural Research, Myanmar; Nepal Agricultural Research Council, Nepal; Department of Agriculture, Thailand; Vietnam Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Vietnam; Agriculture Centre, South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation; Bioversity International and other 20 Chinese Institutes.
The Secretariat is located at YAAS and the President of YAAS is the Secretary-General. And on 19th July 2018, the First General Assembly of Members approved the new members’ application, then CIRAD, Department of Agriculture, Sri Lanka, Pakistan Agricultural Research Council, Pakistan, and Institute of Pomology of CAAS, Fujian Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Zhejiang Academy of Agricultural Sciences became members of IAAST-SSA. In 2018 and 2019, the 2nd and 3rd Symposiums were held in Baoshan and Zhao tong respectively. Due to the outbreak of COVID-19, the 4th and 5th Symposium on Exchange and Cooperation to Enhance Innovation for Agricultural Science and Technology in South & Southeast Asia were held online with the main venue in YAAS, Kunming, Yunnan, China from 21st to 22nd September 2020 and 28th to 29th September 2021, respectively. The Alliance, by upholding the spirit of “equality, openness, inclusiveness, extensive consultation, joint construction, mutual sharing, and common development”, shall be committed to developing exchange and cooperation among members, sharing of agricultural science and technology, personnel training, cultural exchange, and policy communication, so as to promote innovation of agricultural science and technology, thus contribute to the economic and social development in South &Southeast Asian countries and regions.
The theme of the 6th symposium is breaking barriers to accelerate international cooperation for agricultural science and technology in post-COVID-19 era.
The guests and invited speakers from China, Iran, Sri Lanka, Egypt, Myanmar, Nepal and etc on three days from 25 to 27th August 2022 will share and discuss the upland rice, mango, sugarcane, and the other important crops in the regions through different workshop and meeting groups.
